The term 'Ruby' denotes a youthful and fruit-forward style of Port. The red-berry fruit aromas which characterise the style match the bright red colour which gave rise to the name 'ruby', most Ruby Port is a blend of selected young ports from multiple vintages.
The Van Zeller Ruby is matured in large oak vats called ‘tonels’, which keeps its young red fruity characters of cherry and raspberry.
In the mouth it is full bodied and dense with clear tannins with some fruity nuances evocative of plum and black fruit jam. Good with Blue Cheese, Fruit cake and Christmas pudding.
