Bordeaux

Bordeaux, for many is by far the greatest wine growing region and many of its Grand Cu Classe wines lie in the world’s most expensive wine cellars, but Bordeaux has wines for all budgets. The region is divided by the Gironde river into two distinct areas, the left bank (Medoc) produces predominately cabernet sauvignon based wines, full of black fruit with plenty of grip. The right bank (St Emilion, Pomerol) is more renowned for its merlot based wines with plum and more restrained tannins. Keep an eye out for exceptional wines in the lesser known region for a fraction of the Grand Cru prices.
