In the 1990’s Paddy O’Flynn had a goal, he would import wines to Ireland directly from Bordeaux, where he lives, and distribute directly to Irish customers. Only the best quality/priced wines would be selected, often from the lesser known appellations of Bordeaux. The goal became reality and The Wine Buff opened its first wine shop at 17 Mallow Street, Limerick, in December 2000. Locals quickly got used to popping into the shop for a browse, a chat, and some friendly guidance from Paddy and Co.
Rene Baylet, Paddy's father-in-law, is a former recipient of the prestigious award, best wine-producer in France quality/price. Paddy’s brother-in-law, Richard Baylet, is the proprietor of five mobile wine-bottling plants, keeping him in daily contact with the smaller vineyards that are producing some of the world’s top wines. With their active co-operation, and with the help of his many wine contacts, Paddy finds the best quality/priced wines throughout the wine growing regions of Europe and beyond, guaranteeing consumers real value for money. The Wine Buff selection of wines, wine gifts and wine accessories is a must for people seeking value for money.
In 2003 the Wine Buff opened new wine shops in Cork and Ennis; Wine Buff outlets are now located throughout the length and breath of Ireland, offering wines and champagnes from around the world.
